The South African Forestry Company Limited (SAFCOL), a Schedule 2 major public entity, has published an open tender for the appointment of a panel of service providers to deliver roundlog transport services across its plantations in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal.
Scope and Geographical Coverage
The appointed panel members will provide inbound roundlog transport services on a project basis, covering short-haul, direct-to-mill, and long-haul transport modes, with or without backhaul. Operations span all SAFCOL plantations to internal sawmills, with key areas including:
- Limpopo: Makhado (Entabeni) and Tzaneen (Woodbush)
- Mpumalanga & KZN: Sabie & Graskop, Nelspruit, Sudwala, Highveld, and Vryheid (Ngome)
Estimated annual volumes include 100,000m³ for Timbadola Sawmill, 50,000m³ for envisaged mill delivery, and 70,000 tons for Sappi. These volumes are not guaranteed and will vary based on operational requirements.
Mandatory Requirements
To qualify, bidders must submit:
- Public Liability Cover with a Spread of Fire (Forestry and Plantation) minimum of R5 million
- Valid Letter of Good Standing with the Compensation Commissioner (COIDA)
- CSD registration summary report
- Certified CIPC registration documents and share certificates
- Completed SBD 1, SBD 3.1, SBD 4, and SBD 6.1 forms
Functionality Evaluation Criteria
Bidders must score a minimum of 70 points out of 100 to be considered for the panel:
- Company Experience (20 points): 7+ years’ experience with contactable reference letters
- Management Experience (10 points): Project leader’s relevant experience
- Past Experience/Capability (20 points): Proof of delivering ≥50,000 tons or m³
- Loading Equipment (15 points): Three or more three-wheel loggers
- Truck Fleet (25 points): Six or more rigid logger trucks with trailers
- Physical Verification (10 points): Equipment condition assessment
Compulsory Briefing Session
A compulsory briefing session will be held on:
- Date: Wednesday, 09 September 2026
- Time: 11:00 – 12:30
- Venue: Microsoft Teams (link provided in tender document)
Failure to attend will lead to disqualification.

- Closing Date: Monday, 21 September 2026 at 12:00
- Submission: Hand-delivered or couriered to SAFCOL Nelspruit Office, ABSA Square, 3rd Floor, Reception, 20 Paul Kruger Street
- Validity Period: 90 days from closing date
