The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board (KZNSB) has issued Request for Quotation 6668-ZNQ-RES-26 for the appointment of a registered medical waste management company to dispose of infectious and chemical liquid waste from its Research and Monitoring Division at Umhlanga Headquarters. This one-year contract targets licensed waste contractors capable of ensuring regulatory compliance and environmental safety.
Tender Overview and Service Scope
The RFQ seeks a reliable partner to provide safe collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal of Healthcare Risk Waste (HCRW) generated by laboratory operations. Services will be delivered on a call-out basis once waste containers reach capacity, with preferred response times within 72 hours of notification.
Waste Categories and Collection Requirements
Bidders must quote for monthly removal and replacement of:
- 2.5L Sharps Containers (2 units) for needles, scalpels, syringes
- 45L RUC Treatment and Sanitation bins (2 units) for infectious waste including blood-contaminated materials, gloves, petri dishes, pipette tips
- 5L Jerry Cans for liquid chemical waste (4 units) containing formalin, ethanol, laboratory reagents
Pricing must include treatment and disposal costs per kilogram for both infectious and chemical waste categories, plus monthly transport levies and once-off safety file compilation.
Mandatory Licensing and Compliance Documentation
Proposals will be disqualified without:
- Valid Waste Management Licence and Hazardous Waste Handling Permit
- Current Waste Transport Permit with properly labelled vehicles
- Treatment Facility Licence demonstrating approved disposal infrastructure
- Comprehensive contractor compliance portfolio including staff training records in HCRW handling
- Active Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration with MAAA number
- Completed SBD forms: SBD1, SBD4, SBD6.1 with B-BBEE verification certificate or sworn affidavit
Evaluation and Preference Point System
Quotations will be assessed using the 80/20 preference point system:
- 80 points allocated for price competitiveness (lowest acceptable bid scores maximum)
- 20 points for specific goals including:
- More than 50% ownership by Black people, women, or persons with disabilities
- KwaZulu-Natal business location verification via municipal account or lease agreement
- B-BBEE Status Level 1-4 for QSE/EME enterprises
Submission Guidelines and Deadlines
Quotations must be emailed to siphesihle@shark.co.za by 11:00 on Friday, 27 March 2026. Late submissions will not be considered. All prices must be quoted in South African Rand, inclusive of VAT and delivery costs to 1A Herrwood Drive, Umhlanga Ridge, 4320. Quotations must remain valid for 90 days from closing date.
