Sorghum Trust Opens Funding Applications for Research Projects
The Trust invites project proposals that align with its mission to support the development of the sorghum industry in South Africa. Applications must demonstrate how the proposed project will contribute to the Trust’s objectives and benefit the sector.
Who Can Apply for Sorghum Trust Funding
The Trust only considers applications from legal entities, not individuals. Applicants must be able to demonstrate their capacity and involvement in the South African sorghum industry. Both new projects and applications for the continuation of existing projects are welcome.
What the Funding Covers and Key Requirements
Funding is available for research projects with well-defined aims, timeframes and budgets. Applicants must provide:
- A comprehensive executive summary outlining the project’s aim, duration, goals and financial impact
- A detailed budget with annual funding amounts requested from the Trust
- An indication of which sectors of the sorghum industry will benefit
- Details of any co-funding or multiple donors
- A clear motivation for any overseas travel or capital expenditure
- Disclosure of surplus funding from previously funded projects
- The applicant’s BBBEE status and transformation framework
Evaluation Criteria and Selection Process
All applications are referred to the Sorghum Research Evaluation Committee for consideration. The Trustees will consider the priorities of the sorghum industry, availability of funds, the benefit to the industry as a whole, and any capital or travel expenses included in the application. Presentations by applicants may be required, with expenses for the applicant’s account.
