The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) invites experienced production companies to bid for the management and implementation of all production services for the 20th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs20). This open tender (RFT05 2026-2027) offers a significant opportunity in South Africa’s film and television industry.
Tender Overview and Event Details
SAFTAs20 will be staged in March 2027 in Gauteng province. The event comprises three components: the Craft Awards ceremony (Friday evening, streamed live on YouTube), the Red Carpet Special (Saturday evening, 30 minutes), and the Main Awards ceremony (Saturday evening, broadcast live on SABC and Mzansi Magic).
Scope of Production Services
The appointed production company will deliver:
- Concept, look and feel, including pre-packaged content
- Stage presentation and set design for both ceremonies
- Nominee packages and winner announcement packages
- Red carpet production and interviews
- Four musical performances per show, including an in-memoriam tribute
- Social media content and YouTube-formatted elements
- Integration of the SAFTAs20 theme throughout all elements
- A qualified sign-language interpreter for both shows
Mandatory Submission Requirements
Bidders must submit one original and one copy in a USB using a two-envelope system (technical and financial proposals). Required documents include:
- Completed and signed SBD 1, 2, 3.3, 4, 6.1, 8, and 9 forms
- Company profile and registration documents
- CSD registration and valid tax clearance
- Certified B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit
- Certified IDs of all shareholders and directors
- Detailed budget and comprehensive proposal
Four-Stage Evaluation Process
Stage 1: Administrative Compliance – Mandatory document verification.
Stage 2: Functionality Evaluation – Minimum threshold of 70 points out of 100 based on project scope understanding, implementation schedule, team organogram, risk management, quality control, stakeholder management, and detailed project plan including set design and theme integration.
Stage 3: Presentations – Minimum threshold of 20 points out of 30 for proposal demonstration.
Stage 4: Price and Specific Goals – 80 points for price and 20 points for specific goals including B-BBEE level, disability ownership, youth ownership, women ownership, and Gauteng location.
Budget and Pricing Requirements
The budget must include the overall cost of planning and executing all deliverables, accommodation and meals for crew and performers, fees payable to all personnel, and an allowance for unforeseen expenses. Bidders must investigate costs across major Gauteng venues.
