    Apply Now: TIA BRICS STI Innovation Call 2025 for Global R&D Collaboration

    The Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), an entity of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, has announced a call for South African innovators, researchers, universities, and SMMEs to participate in the BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Framework Programme Innovation Call 2025. The initiative supports high-impact, collaborative R&D projects that address pressing societal challenges and unlock commercial opportunities across BRICS nations.

    What Support Is Offered?

    Eligible projects may receive funding for:

    • Built Infrastructure: Refurbished or new facilities such as MSME hubs, industrial parks, or market stalls (R1 million – R23 million).
    • Equipment, Tools, Technology, and Machinery: R1 million – R5 million.
    • Energy Support Solutions: R1 million – R10 million.

    Funding is allocated by each participating BRICS institution according to its national guidelines.

    Who Can Apply?

    Applications are open to:

    • Researchers, innovators, SMMEs, and universities in South Africa.
    • Partnerships must involve at least two BRICS countries (South Africa plus one other).
    • Both principal applicants must be legally registered entities in their respective countries.

    Evaluation Criteria

    Proposals will be evaluated based on:

    • Technical quality, relevance, and excellence of the project.
    • Financial credibility and realistic forecasts.
    • Added value from cross-border collaboration.
    • Expected impact — technological, economic, and societal.

    Projects can run for up to three years. Early-stage research, bursaries, and non-project-related student work will not be funded.

    How to Apply

    Applicants must complete a two-stage submission process:

    1. South African Applicants: Submit the BRICS Joint Call Application Form to TIA via email: tia-brics@tia.org.za
    2. Joint Submission: Upload the Joint Application Form (JAF) to the BRICS AMS online system by 15:00 Moscow Time (UTC+3) on 05 November 2025.

    Applications close on 05 November 2025. Applicants are encouraged to submit early to avoid last-minute delays.
