Cape Town, Western Cape – Groote Schuur Hospital, under the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, has issued an open tender (GSHPT58/2026) for the supply and delivery of chicken poultry to its Main Kitchen over a two-year period. This procurement aims to ensure a reliable supply of quality poultry products for patient meals and hospital catering.
Project Scope and Product Requirements
The successful bidder will supply and deliver three chicken poultry products on an as-and-when-required basis:
- Chicken thighs (150-180g per portion, frozen, original packaging)
- Chicken breast boneless, pre-cut goulash (180g portions, 20mm x 20mm pieces)
- Chicken breast with bone, whole (180g per portion, frozen, original packaging)
Estimated annual quantities include 35,000kg chicken thighs, 18,000kg boneless breast, and 500kg bone-in breast. All products must be locally manufactured, Halal certified, and transported in refrigerated vehicles at temperatures not exceeding 7°C.
Mandatory Compliance Requirements
Bidders must submit the following or face disqualification:
- Valid HACCP/ISO 22000 Food Safety Certification
- Certificate of Acceptability (COA) issued in terms of R638 regulations
- Valid Halal Certificate indicating relevant product category
- Completed bid documents including WCBD 1, WCBD 3.1, WCBD 4, WCBD 5, and WCBD 6.1
- B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit
- Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration
Compulsory Briefing Session
A compulsory briefing session will be held on Monday, 5 October 2026 at 11:00 at Groote Schuur Hospital, New Main Building, Kleinschuur Exhibition Area, E-Floor, Observatory. Submission Details
Sealed bids must be deposited in the bid box at the Foyer, Main Entrance, Old Main Building, Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory, 7925, before 11:00 on Thursday, 22 October 2026. Bids must remain valid for 60 days.
Evaluation Process
The bid follows a three-stage evaluation:
- Stage 1: Compliance with specifications and bid requirements
- Stage 2: Sample evaluation and site visit
- Stage 3: Preferential procurement evaluation (80/20 point system)
This is a single supplier award, with the highest total points (price + B-BBEE) recommended for appointment. Prices must be firm for Year 1 and Year 2, with no additional adjustments for fuel, electricity, or labour costs.
