Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd has released an open Request for Bid for the supply and delivery of fresh fruits and vegetables to Matla Power Station in Mpumalanga. The successful bidder will be responsible for sourcing, packaging, and delivering a wide range of premium fresh produce to the power station located on Delmas Road in Kriel. Scope of Work and Technical Requirements

The tender requires the supply of Class/Grade 1 fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs that must be freshly picked, crisp, vibrant, and free of defects. The scope includes whole, peeled, grated, sliced, diced, and pre-packed produce as per Matla Power Station’s requirements . All products must comply with food safety standards such as ISO 22000 or HACCP, with refrigerated transportation to maintain product freshness .

Bidders must demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in supplying fresh produce to large industrial clients
  • Refrigerated fleet capability (proof of vehicle ownership or rental agreements)
  • Compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 22000, and ISO 14001 standards
  • Valid Certificate of Acceptability for food premises
  • Food Safety Management System Certificate (ISO 22000)

Compulsory Briefing Session

A compulsory Microsoft Teams clarification meeting will be held on 23 July 2026 at 10:30 . Attendance is mandatory, and bidders who fail to attend will be disqualified.

Evaluation Criteria and Functionality

The tender follows a phased evaluation approach with a technical threshold of 75% :

Phase 1 – Mandatory Requirements:

  • CSD Registration with valid FULL report
  • Tax compliance (CSD Overall Tax Status must be compliant)
  • Certificate of Acceptability for food premises
  • Completed and signed SBD forms (SBD 1, 4, 6.1)
  • Annexure L – Authority to Submit a Tender
  • Submission of two-envelope system (Technical and Price proposals)

Phase 2 – Functionality (Technical) Evaluation:

  • Company experience in food supply contracts (35 points): 2+ years = 35 points; 12+ months = 20 points; 6+ months = 10 points
  • Company delivery capability with refrigerated trucks (35 points)
  • Food Safety Management System – ISO 22000 certificate (30 points)

Phase 3 – Price Evaluation: 80/20 preference point system applies

Phase 4 – Specific Goals: B-BBEE status levels (Level 1 = 20 points, Level 2 = 18 points, etc.)

Safety and Environmental Compliance

Bidders must submit comprehensive SHEQ documentation including:

  • Signed Annexure B (Acknowledgement of OHS requirements)
  • OHS Policy signed by CEO or MD
  • Health and Safety Plan with Baseline Risk Assessment
  • Valid Letter of Good Standing from Compensation Fund (COIDA)
  • Environmental Contractor Assessment Form completed
  • Signed Contractor Commitment and Indemnity Letter
  • ISO 14001 certificate or completed Environmental Assessment Form
