The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has issued an open tender (WIMS 080836) for the appointment of a registered professional multi-disciplinary consulting team. This strategic contract targets qualified engineering and architectural firms to provide professional services for the reinstatement of the HVAC system to the existing theatres at RK Khan Hospital in Durban.
Scope of Work
The appointed multi-disciplinary team will provide professional services for the reinstatement of the theatre HVAC system at RK Khan Hospital.
Team composition and key responsibilities include:
- Mechanical Engineer (including Fire Engineer) & Principal Agent: Lead the project and coordinate the professional consultant team .
- Architect (Pr. Arch): Design services in accordance with SACAP .
- Quantity Surveyor (Pr. QS): Cost planning, estimation, and financial control .
- Civil Engineer (Pr. Eng): Engineering services as per ECSA guidelines.
- Structural Engineer (Pr. Eng): Engineering services as per ECSA guidelines.
- Electrical Engineer (Pr. Eng): Engineering services as per ECSA guidelines
Mandatory Technical Criteria and Functionality
Bidders must demonstrate proven experience in installing centralized HVAC systems within hospital clinical environments. Proposals will undergo a strict three-phase evaluation, beginning with SCM administrative compliance, followed by technical functionality scoring, and concluding with preference point allocation.

- Proof of Registration with Professional Council (SACAP, SACQSP, ECSA)

- Proof of Professional Indemnity Insurance (minimum amounts per discipline)
- Proof of Municipal Account or Lease Agreement (less than 3 months old)
- Certified copies of Identity Documents of Owners/Shareholders/Directors
Electronic Queries and Clarification Process
No compulsory physical briefing session will be held. Instead, all technical queries must be submitted electronically to the designated project managers by 16 July 2026. Consolidated responses will be published on the departmental website on 17 July 2026 for all prospective bidders to review.
