The Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) in Limpopo has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ) under reference number EDET/QUOTE 0466 for the design, manufacture, and installation of interpretive and directional signage across five key heritage and conservation sites: Mphaphuli Cycad Nature Reserve, Wolkberg Nature Reserve, Blouberg Nature Reserve, Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve, and Makgabeng Rock Art Site. This initiative aims to enhance visitor experience, promote environmental education, and support sustainable tourism development in the province.
Overview of the Limpopo Nature Reserve Signage RFQ
Published on 19 February 2026, this RFQ invites qualified and compliant service providers to deliver professionally designed, durable, and contextually appropriate signage that aligns with international best practices in eco-tourism and cultural heritage interpretation. The project supports LEDET’s mandate to conserve biodiversity, protect rock art heritage, and improve infrastructure at public natural assets.
Scope of Work: Types and Locations of Signage
The scope includes over 50 individual signage units across multiple categories:
- Interpretive boards with maps and educational content (e.g., at Wolkberg’s Mawetse Camp and Lekgalameetse gate)
- Welcome signs at trailheads and camp entrances (up to 1500mm x 1000mm)
- Directional and confirmation trail markers (300–370mm range) for hiking routes like the Tiyisela and Selati Trails
- Roadside advance turn signs (Class 1 brown retro-reflective Chromadeck panels) for Blouberg, Mphaphuli, and Makgabeng access roads
- Camping stand identifiers and braai area markers at Lekgalameetse
All signage must use SABS-compliant materials, including 2mm aluminium with water-based matt primerless paint for interpretive boards and Class 3 white retro-reflective borders for road signs. The department will provide all text, symbols, and reference numbers; bidders are responsible for layout, production, and installation—including removal of old signs where required.
