In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2025, the City of Polokwane is proud to announce the GEW Agri-preneurship Competition—an exciting platform designed to recognize, support, and uplift local agricultural entrepreneurs. This initiative underscores the municipality’s commitment to fostering sustainable agriculture, empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and honoring the hardworking farmers who contribute significantly to the region’s food security and economic growth.
Celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week with Polokwane
Scheduled for November 2025, the GEW Agri-preneurship Competition forms part of a broader national and international movement to spotlight entrepreneurial excellence. By focusing on the agricultural sector, Polokwane Municipality aims to drive innovation, sustainability, and professionalism among local farming enterprises.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
The competition is open to both individual farmers and cooperatives operating within the Polokwane Municipality jurisdiction. Eligible participants include those engaged in crop production or animal farming—including poultry, small stock, and large stock operations.
Key Requirements for Participation
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens aged 18 or older
- Operate an agricultural business active for at least one year
- Farm on a minimum of one hectare of land
- Be registered in the Municipal Enterprise Development database
How to Submit Your Application
Interested farmers must collect the official application form from the Itsoseng Entrepreneurial Centre (located at Polokwane Bus Rank) starting 1 October 2025. Completed applications, along with the following supporting documents, must be submitted by 30 October 2025 between 08:00 and 16:00:
- Certified copy of ID
- Proof of residence
- Permission to occupy, lease agreement, or title deed
- Photographs of farm activities
- CK/Company registration certificate
- Latest bank statement
- SARS tax clearance or tax PIN letter
- Business profile
Note: No online submission portal or digital tender documents are currently available. All forms must be collected and submitted in person at the Itsoseng Entrepreneurial Centre.
Judging Process and Finalist Selection
A dedicated screening committee will conduct on-site farm visits to assess operations and shortlist finalists. Selected participants will then pitch their business plans before a live audience and a panel of expert judges—a valuable opportunity to showcase their vision and gain exposure.
Previous Winners Not Eligible
Farmers who have previously won the GEW Agri-preneurship Competition are not eligible to reapply, ensuring new talent and enterprises have the chance to benefit from this platform.
