The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has issued Request for Proposal DBN/OPS (BAC) 006 for the appointment of a panel of contractors to provide general building minor maintenance services. This strategic 36-month contract targets qualified construction and maintenance firms to support PRASA’s infrastructure across the KwaZulu-Natal region.
Scope of Works and Coverage
The main purpose of this general building maintenance service contract is to maintain facilities and carry out general building repairs in line with relevant standards, regulations and legislation. The service will be carried out on an as-and-when basis as determined by Facilities Management .
Key Areas of Focus:
- General building maintenance works
- Repairs to vandalised infrastructure
- Refurbishment of ticket offices, platform surfaces, lighting equipment, ablution facilities, retail/commercial facilities, parking and other station infrastructure
- Service resumption and infrastructure investment in Rail Top Priority Corridors
Number of Stations and Facilities:
The contract covers over 100 stations and facilities across KwaZulu-Natal, including Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Ladysmith, Isipingo, Umlazi, KwaMashu, Newcastle, and many others .
Mandatory Compliance and Evaluation
Bidders must hold a valid Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) grading of 2GB or higher. Proposals will undergo a rigorous multi-stage evaluation, including mandatory administrative compliance, a technical functionality threshold of 70%, and a final pricing assessment.
Compulsory Briefing Session
Attendance at the pre-proposal briefing is strictly mandatory. Bidders must arrange their own transport, wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and arrive punctually. Latecomers will not be permitted entry and will be summarily disqualified.
