The Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) has opened applications for a fully supported trade mission to the International Food Show Africa (IFSA) 2026 in Tunis, Tunisia, from 8–12 June 2026. This strategic initiative—funded through the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition’s Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME) Supplier Development and Export Programme (SSAS)—aims to position qualified Eastern Cape agro-processing and food producers within North and Sub-Saharan African markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
Overview of the ECDC IFSA Tunisia 2026 Trade Mission
IFSA Tunisia is a premier pan-African food and beverage platform that connects suppliers with importers, distributors, retailers, and HORECA (Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering) buyers across the continent. By participating, Eastern Cape businesses gain direct access to a high-potential commercial hub serving both Mediterranean and African markets, where demand for quality, traceable, and value-added food products is rapidly growing.
The ECDC will manage the end-to-end logistics of the delegation, including booth setup, business matchmaking, and market intelligence briefings, ensuring participants are well-prepared for meaningful engagement.
Strategic Objectives and Market Opportunities
The mission is designed to achieve several key outcomes:
- Facilitate market entry into Tunisia and North Africa
- Leverage AfCFTA tariff and non-tariff advantage for South African exporters
- Provide insights into local regulatory requirements, certification standards, and distribution networks
- Showcase the quality, sustainability, and innovation of Eastern Cape food products
- Build long-term relationships with African buyers seeking reliable supply partners
Participants will also receive pre-departure training on cross-cultural negotiation, Tunisian consumer preferences, and post-show follow-up strategies.
Targeted Sectors and Product Categories
The ECDC is prioritising export-ready enterprises in the following sectors:
- Value-added processed foods: Citrus concentrates, tropical fruit blends, smoothie bases
- Sauces, condiments, and shelf-stable culinary products
- Grains and grain-based ingredients
- Animal feed inputs: Maize-soya blends, sunflower meal
- Natural and niche ingredients: Herbal extracts, botanicals, functional food components
- Meat, poultry, and fresh produce with established cold-chain capabilities
All applicants must demonstrate product readiness for international markets, including compliance with food safety and labelling standards.
Financial Support and Inclusions
Successful applicants will receive comprehensive support covering:
- Return air travel from South Africa to Tunis
- Accommodation (bed, breakfast, and dinner) for the duration of the event
- A fully equipped exhibition booth in the South African pavilion
- Ground transportation between venue, hotel, and official functions
- Transportation of product samples to the show floor
This removes major financial barriers for SMMEs seeking their first or expanded entry into African markets.
