The Polokwane Municipality in Limpopo has issued an open Request for Bid under reference number PM62-24/25 for the harvesting of the Kroomdraai Plantation located on Farm Kromdraai 1025 LS, Portion 5, near Haenertsburg. This re-advertised tender seeks a qualified forestry service provider to conduct a full, sustainable timber harvest in accordance with South African forestry standards. The contract includes site clearing, replanting preparation, and environmental compliance over a 24-month period following contract award. Submissions must be hand-delivered by 10:00 on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, to the Municipal Civic Centre in Polokwane.
This is a strategic opportunity for experienced forestry contractors with expertise in commercial plantation management and ecological restoration.
Project Scope: Responsible Timber Harvesting and Site Rehabilitation
The successful bidder will:
- Conduct a full harvest of Pinus species across the designated plantation area
- Remove all felled timber and debris from the site
- Clear and rehabilitate the land to prepare it for future replanting
- Comply with all applicable legislation, including the National Forests Act, NEMA, and industry best practices
- Coordinate closely with municipal representatives throughout the project lifecycle

Mandatory Requirements and Experience Criteria
Bidders must demonstrate:
- Valid registration on the Central Supplier Database (CSD)
- SARS Tax Compliance PIN
- B-BBEE Certificate or sworn affidavit
- Proven experience in commercial forestry operations, including valuation and silviculture
- Evidence of past projects of similar scale and scope
- Completed Standard Bidding Documents: MBD 4 (Declaration of Interest), MBD 6.1 (Preference Points Claim), and MBD 7 (Contract Form)
Joint ventures must provide a notarised agreement and ensure all partners meet these criteria.
Evaluation Criteria: Functionality and 80/20 Preference System
Bids will be assessed in two stages:
- Functionality Review: Based on technical methodology, past performance, resource capacity, and environmental compliance plan
- 80/20 Preferential Procurement Scoring:
- 80 points: Price (lowest compliant = 80; others scored proportionally)
- 20 points: Specific Goals, including Black, women, youth, disability ownership, and locality within Polokwane Municipality
