The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), in partnership with the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), has launched a series of critical roadshows to unlock significant funding opportunities for filmmakers in the region. This initiative, part of the Sixth Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme, is designed to elevate local productions, build industry capacity, and bring Eastern Cape stories to the world.
Unlock Film Funding with NFVF and ECDC Roadshow
This partnership represents a powerful injection of capital and support for the Eastern Cape’s film sector. The roadshows aim to guide producers, directors, and creatives through the application process for substantial grants. With funding available for various stages of filmmaking, from initial development to final marketing, the programme is a comprehensive effort to stimulate economic activity and employment in the creative industry.
Three Key Funding Streams for Your Projects
The NFVF has structured the funding into three distinct streams to cater to different needs within the film value chain. Applicants can apply for support in one or more of the following categories, each with its own funding cap:
- Production Funding: This is split into two groups. Group 1 supports production, including development and post-production, with funding capped at a substantial R10 million. Group 2 is for production and post-production only, with funding capped at R2 million.
- Skills Development: Funding between R700,000 and R1 million is available for programmes aimed at building a skilled and competitive film industry workforce.
- Marketing and Distribution: Grants ranging from R500,000 to R1.5 million are allocated to help filmmakers effectively promote and distribute their completed projects to audiences.
Amplify Your Budget with ECDC Co-Funding
A key highlight of this initiative is the additional financial leverage provided by the ECDC. The corporation offers a co-funding instrument through the Eastern Cape Film Investment Fund. This means successful applicants can use ECDC funding to match the finance secured from the NFVF, effectively doubling their financial resources and enabling larger-scale, more ambitious projects.
