The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) has issued an open tender (SANBI: NZG578/2026) for the appointment of a service provider to deliver comprehensive security guarding services at the National Zoological Garden (NZG) in Pretoria. This strategic three-year contract is critical for safeguarding South Africa’s invaluable biodiversity assets and ensuring visitor safety.

Scope of Work and Security Risks

The 85-hectare NZG campus houses endangered wildlife, plant species, and valuable infrastructure, receiving approximately 37,000 visitors monthly. The appointed provider must render 24/7 security services to mitigate risks including:

  • Poaching, trespassing, and malicious damage to property
  • Armed robbery and theft of equipment or animals
  • Unauthorised access via boundary fences and the Apies River
  • Loitering and violence by intoxicated visitors

Required Documentation for Submission

Bidders must submit a comprehensive set of mandatory documents to be considered compliant:

  • Company Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration report
  • Valid company PSIRA registration certificate
  • Valid owner/management team PSIRA registration certificates
  • Certified copy of valid ICASA licence or PTT service contract
  • Documentary proof of operating office in Gauteng province
  • Valid Letter of Good Standing (COIDA)
  • Company health and safety policy and training plan
  • Liability Insurance Cover (minimum R5 million per claim)
  • Duly completed and signed SBD forms
  • Fully completed compulsory site briefing session certificate
  • Completed pricing schedule (Annexure D)
  • Company profile with mission statement and management structures
  • Latest Audited Financial Statement
  • CVs for Site/Project Manager and two supervisors
  • Five signed reference letters from previous clients (at least three from different organisations)
  • Detailed training and skills development plan with timeframes

Compulsory Site Briefing Session

Attendance at the mandatory pre-bid clarification meeting is strictly required. Bidders must adhere to all health and safety protocols on-site.
