Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH), the Jack Ma Foundation’s flagship philanthropic initiative, invites exceptional African entrepreneurs to apply for its annual Prize competition. This transformative programme showcases local talent driving positive community impact while inspiring a continent-wide movement of entrepreneurship. Over a ten-year period, ABH aims to recognize 100 African entrepreneurs with grant funding, training, and ecosystem support.

Prize Structure and Funding Opportunities

Each year, ten outstanding finalists compete for a share of USD $1.5 million in grant funding. The prize distribution includes:

  • Top Winner: USD $300,000
  • First Runner-up: USD $250,000
  • Second Runner-up: USD $150,000
  • Remaining Seven Finalists: USD $100,000 each
  • Additional USD $100,000 allocated for global immersion training

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

To qualify for the ABH competition, applicants must:

  • Be the founder or co-founder of the business
  • Hold African citizenship or be a direct descendant of an African citizen
  • Have a company registered, headquartered, and primarily operating in an African country
  • Demonstrate at least three years of revenue and proven market traction
  • Submit applications in English or French
