Mintek has issued an open Request for Proposal under tender number MTK 12/2025 for the provision of comprehensive canteen services at its headquarters in Randburg, Gauteng, for a period of three (3) years. The contract covers daily meal preparation, beverage service, snack provision, and internal catering for over 600 staff members, including shift workers and special dietary needs. Applications close at 12:00 on Monday, 2 February 2026, and a compulsory briefing session will be held on 20 January 2026 at 11:00 at the Mintek Auditorium.

This is a full-service opportunity requiring operational excellence, food safety compliance, and responsive customer service in a high-demand scientific and industrial environment.

Scope of Services: Full Canteen Operations for 600+ Staff

The successful service provider will manage all aspects of canteen operations at Mintek’s 200 Malibongwe Drive, Strydom Park premises, including:

  • Daily provision of breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages from 08:00 to 15:00
  • Catering for internal meetings, conferences, and ad-hoc functions
  • Stock management, kitchen operations, and front-of-house service
  • Accommodation of special dietary requirements (e.g., Halaal, Kosher, vegetarian, gluten-free, diabetic)
  • Use of environmentally friendly disposable packaging (samples provided at briefing)
  • Maintenance of a minimum two-day stock level to ensure uninterrupted service

All food must be freshly prepared using market-related pricing, and no subsidies will be provided by Mintek.

Mandatory Requirements and Compliance Documentation

Bidders must submit the following essential documents:

  • Valid Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration number
  • SARS Tax Compliance PIN
  • Valid food service license
  • Audited or signed-off financial statements for the past three years
  • Company profile, organogram, and proof of relevant experience
  • Health certificates for all proposed canteen staff
  • Completed Mintek Tender Forms (MTF 01–06) and Standard Bidding Documents (SBD 4 and SBD 6.1)
  • R500 non-refundable submission fee (proof of payment required)

Incomplete or non-compliant submissions will be disqualified.

Two-Stage Evaluation: Functionality, Tasting, Price & B-BBEE

The evaluation process is rigorous and multi-phased:

  1. Functionality Assessment (80 points):
    • Service delivery capacity (10 pts)
    • Occupational Health & Safety plan (20 pts)
    • Track record and references (55 pts)
    A minimum 80% score is required to proceed.
  2. Food Presentation & Tasting (20 points):
    Shortlisted bidders must prepare sample meals for 10 people at their own cost, including:
    • A standard lunch plate
    • Fried chips and vetkoeks (amagwinya)
    • An executive platter for meeting catering
  3. Final Evaluation (100 points total):
    • Price: 80 points
    • Specific Goals (B-BBEE): 20 points, covering black, women, youth, and disability ownership
