The African Bank MSME Capacity Building Programme goes beyond traditional funding by offering a holistic support package that includes tailored mentorship, access to markets, business diagnostics, and customized business development services. The goal is to equip entrepreneurs with the tools, networks, and knowledge needed to scale their operations, improve competitiveness, and contribute meaningfully to local and national economic development.
Eligibility Criteria and Ownership Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- The business must be at least 51% Black-owned
- All owners must be South African citizens aged 18 or older
- Owners must be full-time entrepreneurs—not employed (full- or part-time) by any public or private entity
- The business must commit to active participation for the full 12-month duration
- The enterprise must operate in legal and compliant sectors (exclusions include alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and narcotics)
Businesses owned by persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply, in line with African Bank’s inclusive economic empowerment mandate.
