The Royal Academy of Engineering has officially launched the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2026, a prestigious pan-African competition designed to support and accelerate engineering entrepreneurs who are developing scalable solutions to local challenges.
This initiative, now in its 12th year, offers African innovators a unique opportunity to gain access to vital funding, mentorship, training, and global visibility to help scale their ventures and maximise their social, economic, and environmental impact.
Applications for the Stage 1 of the prize are now open and will close on Tuesday, 23 September 2025 at 4:00 PM (UTC+1).
About the Africa Prize

The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation is the first pan-African award of its kind, established to recognise, reward, and develop African innovators with engineering-based solutions that address pressing challenges on the continent.
Since its inception in 2014, the prize has supported over 165 businesses from 22 African countries, fostering a vibrant community of engineering entrepreneurs who are driving sustainable development across sectors such as agri-tech, health, energy, water, and digital infrastructure.
The 2026 programme will shortlist up to 16 finalists, who will receive a comprehensive package of support over an eight-month period, culminating in the awarding of a £50,000 top prize, along with £25,000 for each of the three runners-up.
