Denel Landward Seeks G6 Barrel Cleaning System Supplier

Denel Landward, a division of Denel SOC Ltd, has published a Request for Bid (DLS 08-01 26/27) inviting qualified suppliers to provide an Automatic Barrel Cleaning System for the G6 howitzer. This specialised defence procurement seeks a mature, commercially available production system capable of safely and efficiently cleaning artillery gun barrels.

Tender Overview and Key Dates

This RFB, published on 24 August 2026, seeks a supplier to manufacture and deliver 22 automatic barrel cleaning systems in batches. Bids close on 14 September 2026 at 11:00, with no briefing session scheduled. The bid validity period is 180 days. Queries must be emailed to Tenders.Landward@Denel.co.za. Bidders must submit both a physical copy to the tender box at 368 Selborne Avenue, Lyttelton, and a separate email for the price bid .

Technical Requirements

The system must be a commercially available production system, requiring no further engineering development, suitable for both military workshop and field use . Key specifications include:

  • Cleaning capability: Automatically clean the complete barrel rifling length, dispense and recover cleaning fluid, and complete the cleaning cycle without operator intervention
  • Brush assembly: Utilise a combination of steel and nylon bristles with a combined contact length of not less than 200 mm inside a 155 mm artillery barrel
  • Human Machine Interface: Onboard colour LCD touchscreen for cleaning mode selection, status, fault, and maintenance indication
  • Integrated inspection system: High-definition camera with live video display, image capture, and video recording for inspection during and after cleaning
  • Cleaning modes: Normal, Intensive, Preservation, and De-preservation
  • Electrical: Operate from both 24 VDC and 220 VAC, with battery status indication and overload protection

Delivery Schedule

The contract requires delivery of 22 systems in batches: a demonstrator unit as required until the first 7 are delivered; Batch 1 of 7 full systems in May 2027; Batch 2 of 7 systems in January 2028; and Batch 3 of 8 systems in August 2028. The complete system, excluding the loan unit, must be supplied within a single transport container not exceeding 1100mm in length, 350mm width, and 250mm height, with total system weight under 30kg.

Mandatory Documentation

Bidders must submit a comprehensive package including:

  • Completed and signed SBD 1 form
  • Fully completed Annexure A (Compliance to Statement of Work Matrix)
  • Signed Annexure E (Denel SOC Conditions of Purchase)
  • Valid BBBEE Certificate (failure results in a zero score but not disqualification)
  • CSD proof of registration
  • Certified copy of CIPC Company Registration
  • Certified copies of shareholder certificates and shareholder agreement (if applicable)

Evaluation Criteria

The tender follows a two-stage evaluation process. For Stage 1 (Functional Evaluation), bidders must score a minimum of 70 points out of 100 to proceed . The assessment covers compliance with the Statement of Work (50%), delivery schedule adherence (20%), price competitiveness (20%), and the ability to supply a demonstration/loan unit (10%). Stage 2 applies the 80/20 preference point system (80 points for price, 20 for B-BBEE).

The successful bidder must provide a minimum warranty period of 24 months from acceptance of each production batch.
