The Ethekwini Metropolitan Municipality has issued open tender 36422-5U for the provision of comprehensive landscaping maintenance services at uShaka Marine World for a period of 36 months. This strategic procurement targets qualified horticultural and landscaping enterprises to maintain the aesthetic and environmental standards of Durban’s premier tourist attraction.

Scope of Works and Services

The successful bidder will be responsible for the upkeep of all cultivated and non-cultivated areas within the theme park, including lawns, beds, gardens, fence lines, parking areas, and pavements . The scope includes:

  • Turf management, including mowing, fertilizing, and weeding
  • Maintenance of groundcovers, shrubs, trees, and palms
  • Pest management and control
  • Litter collection and garden refuse removal
  • Irrigation management and monitoring
  • Ad hoc horticultural advisory services

Compulsory Clarification Meeting

Attendance at the pre-bid clarification meeting is strictly mandatory. Bidders who fail to attend and sign the official register will be summarily disqualified from the evaluation process. All questions and answers will be consolidated and published on the municipal website by 10 September 2026.

CIDB Grading and Eligibility Requirements

Bidders must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Possess a CIDB contractor grading designation of 3 SH or higher
  • Provide proof of verifiable experience in works of a similar nature within the past 10 years
  • Submit a minimum of two projects, each valued at 50% of the tender value
  • Tenderers may submit experience gained as Main Contractors
  • The required documentation for experience verification includes letters of award, payment certificates, and completion certificates
  • Failure to provide sufficient verified evidence for any experience submission will render that submission invalid

Strict Submission Protocols

Tender offers require a dual submission approach. A sealed hard copy must be delivered to the official tender box at the Municipal Building, 166 K E Masinga Road, Durban. Additionally, an electronic submission must be completed via the Ethekwini Municipality JDE System (ESP Module). Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
