The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has issued Request for Quotation KZN/PRASA/2026/08/05/Q for a 36-month purchasing agreement to remove litter and general waste between Durban and Berea stations. This strategic contract targets qualified waste management enterprises to maintain cleanliness and safety along this critical rail corridor.
Scope of Works and Safety Requirements
The successful bidder will be responsible for the removal and disposal of general and hazardous waste between Durban and Berea stations. The scope includes:
- Removal of all types of waste including paper, plastic, blankets, mattresses, cardboard, and clothing
- Handling and disposal of hazardous waste at approved waste disposal sites
- Supply of all labour, tools, safety equipment, and transport for waste removal
- Provision of disposal certificates on a monthly basis
- Compliance with all relevant environmental legislation
The area to be cleaned was previously inhabited by vagrants, and waste may contain used needles and human waste, requiring careful handling and proper safety protocols.
Compulsory Briefing Session and Mandatory Requirements
A compulsory briefing session will be held on 21 August 2026 at 10:00 at the Metrorail Office, 65 Masabalala Yengwa Avenue, Durban Station. Bidders must attend the briefing and site inspection to be eligible.
Mandatory requirements for submission include:
- Trackmaster with a valid Category C Green certificate (certified copy)
- Minimum of 2 valid flagmen certificates (certified copies)
- Signed Joint Venture, Consortium, or Partnering Agreement (if applicable)
- Completed Briefing Session Form D
- Bid submission register completed and signed

Strict Physical Submission Protocols
Bid response documents must be hand-delivered and deposited directly into Bid Box No.4 at the PRASA Regional Office Foyer Area Helpdesk. Electronic, faxed, or late submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances. Bidders must ensure they sign the official submission register upon delivery.
