This targeted procurement invites capable construction companies to execute essential infrastructure upgrades at the historic Free State cultural landmark.
Scope of Works and Heritage Preservation
The appointed contractor will undertake building works at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum, located at No. 16 Harrismith Street, Bloemfontein .
Key activities include:
- Repairs and refurbishment of heritage buildings
- Roof waterproofing and repairs
- Plastering, tiling, and painting
- Replacement of damaged gutters, downpipes, and parapet copings
- Structural works on roofs and walls
- All activities as directed by the appointed project architect or project management team
The Oliewenhuis Art Museum collects exclusively South African art, with a permanent collection featuring works by prominent artists such as Pierneef and Thomas Baines . The museum also boasts magnificent gardens, an outdoor sculpture park, and The Reservoir – an underground exhibition space . All work must be carried out with due care to preserve the heritage and architectural integrity of this iconic building.
Mandatory Compliance and Submission Rules
Bidders must submit their quotes in a sealed envelope. Electronic or faxed submissions will not be accepted. The physical bid box is located at the National Museum, ensuring a transparent and secure submission process for all prospective contractors.

- Company profile and track record in repairs and refurbishment
- Minimum 3 contactable reference letters showing 5 years’ prior experience in similar building works (appointment letters will not be accepted)
- Valid CIDB registration certificate (grading 2GB or higher)
- Valid registration or membership with ECSA (for project leader)
- CIPC registration documents
- Letter of Good Standing from COIDA
- Health and Safety Plan
- CV and qualifications of Construction Manager or project lead
- CSD supplier report
- SBD 1, SBD 2, SBD 3.3, SBD 4, SBD 6.1, SBD 8, and SBD 9
