The Momentum Group Foundation, in partnership with AGDA, has launched the Eastern Cape edition of the Women in Farming Programme. This transformative initiative aims to select 18 women-owned vegetable and poultry farming enterprises to receive comprehensive support for commercialisation, growth, and long-term sustainability.
Programme Overview and Objectives
The initiative targets female farmers with a vision to scale their operations. By providing targeted interventions, the partnership seeks to bridge the gap between subsistence production and formal commercial agriculture in the Eastern Cape.
Eligibility and Sector Focus
Applicants must be women-led enterprises with majority ownership and active day-to-day management. The programme is strictly focused on:
- Vegetable and/or poultry production
- Enterprises based in the Eastern Cape
- CIPC registered businesses with a separate bank account
Operational and Financial Requirements
To qualify, operations must meet the following minimum thresholds:
- A minimum of two years of active farming experience
- An annual turnover of at least R200,000
- Farming on a minimum of 2 hectares with proof of land access
- Active production for commercial markets with basic record-keeping
Infrastructure and Growth Potential
Preference will be given to applicants with clear infrastructure development needs, such as irrigation systems, poultry housing, or renewable energy solutions. A demonstrated need for essential equipment and the ability to scale into formal markets are key selection criteria.
