The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has launched its flagship Certificate in Construction Management (CCM), a transformative three-month hybrid programme specifically designed for cidb Grade 2–6 contractors, infrastructure clients, and construction professionals seeking to elevate their business capabilities and project delivery standards.
Programme Overview and Objectives
Delivered by the University of Johannesburg in collaboration with CIDB, this fully-funded programme responds directly to practical challenges faced by emerging and mid-level contractors within South Africa’s evolving construction industry. The CCM equips participants with industry-relevant competencies in construction business management, works execution, contract administration, regulatory compliance, health and safety, sustainability, and innovation.
Target Audience and Eligibility
The programme specifically targets cidb registered contractors in Grades 2–6 who aim to strengthen their businesses, enhance project delivery, and position themselves for sustainable growth and grading progression. Strong emphasis is placed on supporting national transformation imperatives, actively encouraging participation by small and medium enterprises, including historically disadvantaged, women-owned, and youth-owned construction firms.
Curriculum Structure and Modules
Participants complete two compulsory modules covering Construction Project Management and Construction Procurement Management, plus one elective from four specialised options:
- Construction Digitalisation
- Construction Building Standards
- Construction Contract Management
- Construction Innovation Management
This flexible structure ensures a strong foundational base while allowing contractors to build specialised skills directly relevant to their operational contexts.
Flexible Blended Learning Delivery
Training utilises a flexible blended learning model combining online learning with structured block-release sessions and interactive workshops hosted through provincial and municipal hubs. This approach ensures nationwide accessibility while maintaining high levels of practical engagement and real-world application through case studies, practical exercises, and guided applications.
Professional Development Benefits
Successful participants receive a University of Johannesburg Certificate in Construction Management, aligned with CIDB requirements and national quality standards, plus 10 CPD points. The programme strengthens professional credibility and prepares businesses for growth and higher-value construction projects.
