Great North Transport (GNT), a public passenger transport operator providing scheduled bus services in Limpopo Province, has issued an open tender GNT/SUBCONTRACTING/10/2026-2027 for the subcontracting of passenger transport services to local operators. This initiative is part of GNT’s obligation to subcontract 30% of its contracted passenger transport services to qualifying local operators.
Overview of GNT Subcontracting Tender
This open tender is published on the National Treasury eTender Portal. The subcontracting initiative is intended to support the participation and development of small and local public transport operators, including qualifying operators contemplated in section 41(1)(b) of the National Land Transport Act, 2009 (Act 5 of 2009). GNT intends to identify and appoint suitably qualified local operators in various areas of Limpopo Province.
Scope of Work: Passenger Transport Services
The appointed subcontractor(s) will be required to provide passenger transport services on routes and according to timetables allocated by GNT. Key responsibilities include:
- Operating the passenger transport routes and scheduled services allocated by GNT.
- Providing sufficient compliant buses for the allocated services.
- Providing suitably qualified and appropriately licensed drivers and other operational personnel.
- Ensuring the availability, roadworthiness, and proper maintenance of all buses deployed.
- Providing fuel and other operational inputs required for service delivery.
- Complying with applicable ticketing, electronic fare verification (EFVE), monitoring, and reporting systems.
- Maintaining accurate operational, passenger, vehicle, trip, and other records required by GNT.
- Complying with GNT’s safety, operational, and service standards.

- Mopani 1 (Giyani): Up to 4 buses.
