South African Airways (SAA) has issued Request for Proposal GSM 002/2026 for the supply of snack boxes for its inflight services. This strategic three-year contract targets qualified packaging manufacturers to deliver premium, food-grade snack boxes for Economy Class passengers on selected domestic and regional routes.
Scope of Works and Specifications
The successful bidder will be required to supply snack boxes in compliance with SAA’s detailed material and technical specifications .
Technical Specifications:
- Material: Food-grade board, suitable for industrial catering purposes
- Board weight: 250 – 350 gsm
- Dimensions: 150mm (L) x 100mm (W) x 50mm (H)
- Construction: Glued, delivered erect, with internal barrier coating for food contact
- Printing: SAA branding and artwork (single-colour or multi-colour)
- Recycling information must be included on the box
Additional Requirements:
- Products must be biodegradable and recyclable
- No dyes or chemical compounds deemed unsafe for human consumption
- Paper sourced from sustainably managed forests
- Company Quality Assurance standards must be detailed
- Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) confirming food-grade certification
- Defect-free product with uniform make, colour and finish
Mandatory Virtual Briefing Session
Attendance at the compulsory virtual briefing is strictly enforced. Bidders must join via Microsoft Teams to receive critical project insights and clarification on the interim brand guidelines. Late arrivals will not be accommodated.
Strict Electronic and Physical Submission
Proposals must be submitted electronically via a secure link sent to tenders@flysaa.com, which must remain accessible for at least three days post-closing. Additionally, ten physically branded snack box samples must be delivered to Airways Park, Kempton Park, by the closing deadline. Late, incomplete, or non-compliant submissions will be summarily disqualified.
