This strategic initiative targets qualified market research consultancies to support Necsa’s business growth and national footprint expansion.

Scope of Works

The service provider will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the microbiology laboratory analysis and consulting sector, identifying commercial opportunities for offering microbiological testing services to external customers nationally . The research must cover all nine South African provinces and focus on water, food & agriculture, pharmaceutical, and beverage market sectors.

Market Studies Objectives:

  • Market size and forecasting (2025 baseline to 2035 projections)
  • Competitive landscape identifying minimum 30 key market players
  • Technological trend analysis focusing on PCR and ELISA assays
  • Customer needs and pain points (minimum 40 primary interviews)
  • Gap analysis and value proposition for onsite diagnostic hardware
  • Quality and regulatory landscape (National Water Act, Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act)
  • SWOT analysis and strategic recommendations

The final deliverable must include a bottom-up quantitative demand model validating whether Necsa’s short-term capture target of 3,235 to 6,471 samples per annum is mathematically achievable .

Consultant Requirements

Market Research Sector Expertise:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business consulting or strategy
  • Traceable record of industrial market research in laboratory testing analysis
  • Experience with life sciences, water quality, pharmaceuticals, food & agriculture, or beverage sectors

Technical Expertise:

  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC accreditation (ISO 17025 or 9001)
  • Familiarity with HACCP requirements and microbiological testing methodologies

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Microbiology or Biotechnology
  • Relevant Business credential (added advantage)

Bidders must demonstrate proven experience in executing similar market research projects. Essential qualifications include working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 or 9001 laboratory accreditation compliance, HACCP requirements, and relevant academic credentials in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or Business.
