The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD), in partnership with the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA), has officially opened applications for the 2026 Presidential MSME Awards. The awards recognise exceptional Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives that are driving innovation, creating jobs and contributing to South Africa’s economic growth.
The initiative aims to strengthen local enterprises and cooperatives to compete at both domestic and international levels while promoting localisation, inclusive economic participation and sustainable business development. Entrepreneurs from across South Africa are encouraged to submit their applications before the 14 August 2026 closing date.
Purpose of the Presidential MSME Awards
The awards recognise businesses that have demonstrated outstanding performance, resilience and innovation while contributing to South Africa’s development priorities.
The programme seeks to:
- Recognise resilient and innovative enterprises.
- Celebrate sustainable value creators.
- Promote localisation and stronger local value chains.
- Encourage youth, women and disability inclusion.
- Support township and rural enterprise development.
- Inspire entrepreneurship and economic transformation.

- MSME of the Year in the Agricultural Sector
- Financial Services MSME of the Year
- MSME of the Year in Digital Economy, Technology & Innovation
- Manufacturing Sector MSME of the Year
- Green Economy MSME of the Year
- Youth-Led MSME of the Year
- Women-Led MSME of the Year
- MSMEs Owned by Persons with Disabilities of the Year
- Co-operative of the Year
- Township & Rural MSME of the Year

Businesses operating in agriculture, manufacturing, financial services, technology, green industries and community-based enterprises are encouraged to submit their applications. Dedicated categories also recognise youth-owned, women-owned, disability-owned and township or rural businesses.
