Magareng Local Municipality has issued an open tender (TECH01/2026/27) for the supply and delivery of water and wastewater chemicals. This strategic 36-month contract targets specialized chemical suppliers to ensure the continuous provision of safe, potable water and effective wastewater treatment for the Warrenton community in the Northern Cape.

Scope of Supply and Treatment Operations

The appointed service provider will supply and deliver water and wastewater chemicals to the Magareng Municipality on an as-and-when-required basis for 36 months.

Key deliverables include:

  • Chemicals: Supply of coagulant, sodium hypochlorite, HTH Scientific Granular (65% range), chlorine gas (925kg cylinders), and other water treatment chemicals.
  • Delivery: Delivery within 7 working days of order placement, including off-loading at the Warrenton Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants.
  • Compliance: Products must be SABS approved, with Material Safety Data Sheets provided with each delivery. Transportation must comply with SANS 10233 for dangerous goods.
  • Training: Annual training for operators on safe chemical handling may be required.
  • Certificates: Submission of product chemical analysis, NSF certificates, and certificates of analysis with every delivery.

Mandatory Hazchem and Safety Compliance

Bidders must comply with stringent safety regulations, including the South African National Standard (SANS) 10233 for the transportation of dangerous goods. Valid Hazchem Certification and Material Safety Data Sheets are mandatory for all supplied chemicals to protect municipal staff and the environment.

Functionality Evaluation and Jar Testing

Proposals will undergo a rigorous functionality assessment evaluating the bidder’s experience, key personnel qualifications, and Jar Test Results. The Jar Test must demonstrate that the proposed chemicals achieve a final turbidity of ≤ 1 NTU in accordance with SANS 241: 2015 drinking water standards.

Submission Guidelines and Locality Preferences

Sealed bid documents must be deposited in the municipal tender box. The evaluation utilizes an 80/20 preferential procurement system, awarding specific points for local enterprises within the Magareng Local Municipality and Northern Cape province.
