KZN Museum Tender: Entomology and Specimen Supplies

The KwaZulu-Natal Museum has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ) under reference number RFQ-KZN.M05JAN027 for the supply of entomology-related consumables and materials to support its scientific research, curation, and specimen preservation activities. Scope of Supply: Specialized Entomology Materials and Consumables

The successful supplier will deliver a range of professional-grade entomology supplies, including but not limited to:

  • Insect pins (various sizes: 000 to 6)
  • Foam or cork insect mounting blocks
  • Glass-topped specimen storage boxes
  • Ethanol (70% and 95% purity) for preservation
  • Forceps, spreading boards, and labeling materials
  • Vials, jars, and airtight containers for specimen storage

All items must meet scientific and archival standards to ensure long-term specimen integrity and usability for research and exhibition purposes.

Mandatory Submission Requirements

To be considered, quotations must include:

  • A formal quote on company letterhead, clearly itemized by product, unit, quantity, rate, and total
  • Valid SARS Tax Compliance PIN
  • Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration number (MAAA-xxxx)
  • Completed Standard Bidding Document 4 (SBD 4) – Declaration of Interests
  • Contact details for follow-up and delivery coordination

Submissions must be emailed as a single PDF attachment to scm@nmsa.org.za with the subject line:
“RFQ-KZN.M05JAN027 – [Your Company Name]”

Evaluation and Award Criteria

This RFQ will be evaluated using the 80/20 Preferential Procurement system as prescribed by the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA) Regulations 2022:

  • 80 points: Price (lowest compliant quote receives full points)
  • 20 points: Specific Goals, including Black, women, youth, and disability ownership

Only complete, compliant, and responsive quotations will be considered. The museum reserves the right to request clarifications or reject any or all submissions without explanation.
