The Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) has launched a province-wide Spaza Shop Fund Awareness Campaign to ensure that township and rural entrepreneurs don’t miss out on a transformative R500 million funding opportunity. In collaboration with the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD), the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), and municipalities across the region, DEDEAT is hosting community roadshows and information sessions to guide small business owners through the application process. This initiative is specifically designed to support spaza shops and other informal convenience retailers with financial grants, blended financing, and essential business development services—empowering them to grow, formalise, and thrive in South Africa’s evolving economy.
Unlock R100,000 in Support for Your Spaza Shop
Every qualifying spaza shop can receive up to R100,000 in combined financial and non-financial support. This includes R40,000 in grant funding, R50,000 as a blended grant and loan, and R10,000 in non-financial business development services — designed to strengthen your operations from day one.

The campaign brings vital information directly to entrepreneurs in their communities. Free awareness sessions and roadshows will be held in key districts across the Eastern Cape from October 20–24, 2025, with each session starting at 09h00 at designated municipal venues.
