Are you building a high-impact biotech startup in health, agriculture, cannabis, or indigenous knowledge systems? The UVU Bio “Scaling to Success” Biotechnology Incubation & Acceleration Programme is now open for applications — and it could be the breakthrough your venture needs.
This competitive programme, kicking off in August 2025, is designed to fast-track biotech entrepreneurs from prototype to market. Whether you’re based in South Africa or elsewhere on the continent, this is your opportunity to access labs, mentorship, and commercial support from Africa’s first open-access biotech incubator.
What the Programme Offers

The programme begins with an intensive five-day bootcamp (online or in person), focused on commercialisation, business modelling, and technical strategy tailored for biotech ventures. After the bootcamp, selected businesses receive:
- Ongoing expert mentorship and coaching
- Access to UVU Bio’s advanced laboratory infrastructure in Cape Town and Kigali
- Business development support
- Investor readiness guidance and pitch opportunities
- Networking with partners, funders, and other innovators in the bioeconomy
This is not just a workshop — it’s a full support pipeline to help biotech innovators overcome growth barriers and reach commercial success faster.
What Makes This Programme Stand Out
UVU Bio (formerly BioCiTi) is a leading force in Africa’s biotechnology innovation ecosystem. Since launching, the incubator has:
- Supported over 60 early-stage businesses
- Created more than 400 jobs
- Facilitated over 30,000 hours of lab access
- Built partnerships with institutions like Absa, GIZ, and the University of Rwanda
Its pan-African reach, world-class facilities, and founder-first approach make this one of the most impactful support programmes for biotech startups on the continent.
