Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) invites bids from qualified service providers for the professional design of furniture at King Phalo Airport in East London. This Request for Quotation (RFQ) offers a specialist opportunity for interior designers and architects to contribute to the airport’s refurbishment and enhancement.

ACSA, a state-owned company operating South Africa’s nine principal airports, is in the midst of a significant infrastructure programme. This project is part of a broader investment strategy to modernise and improve airport facilities across the country.

Tender Overview and Key Dates

RFQ Number 12214 was published on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, with a closing date of Friday, 17 July 2026 at 16:00. The place of delivery is King Phalo Airport, 66 Settlers Way, Greenfields, KuGompo City. A compulsory briefing session will be held on Thursday, 02 July 2026 at 12:00 at the King Phalo Airport Information Help Desk. Bids must be submitted electronically via the eTenders portal.

Scope of Work and Design Requirements

The appointed consultant will be responsible for conducting a site assessment and developing a comprehensive office layout design. This includes designing workstations, reception and meeting rooms, staff kitchens and dining areas, rest facilities, lockers and secure storage, terminal soft seating, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and accessibility standards. The Lead Individual must be a professionally registered Senior Interior Designer or higher with the African Institute of the Interior Design Professions (IID), with a minimum of two references.

Functionality Evaluation and Minimum Threshold

Bidders will be evaluated on functionality, with a minimum threshold of 70 points required to proceed. Points are allocated for the tenderer/bidder’s project management work experience in commercial lounge facility projects (up to 20 points) and the Project Manager’s experience in three to five similar completed projects with a minimum construction value of R1,500,000 each (up to 45 points). The Project Manager must also be professionally registered with the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) (10 points).

Preference Points and Specific Goals

The 80/20 preference point system applies, with 80 points for price and 20 for specific goals. Preference points are allocated for B-BBEE Status Level (up to 5 points), Black youth majority-owned entities (5 points), Black women majority-owned entities (5 points), and companies majority-owned by people with disabilities (5 points). Failure to submit proof of B-BBEE status will result in zero preference points.

Submission Instructions and Important Notes

Bids must be submitted via email to acsarfq@airports.co.za, with submissions broken into at least four attachments of 4mb each. Bids submitted as one large attachment will not be accepted. The validity period is 120 business/working days, and prices must remain firm and valid during this period. Bidders may not contact any ACSA employee other than the designated contact person. ACSA reserves the right to award the whole or part of the bid, split the award, or cancel the bid.
